Protecting your roof, gutters, and pipes with Raychem

When it comes to protecting your assets from the winter months there are a handful of products out there. One of them really stands out. Here at Griffith Electric Supply we really like the Raychem Self-Regulating Heating Products line.

With the Raychem Self-Regulating cables there is no more worrying about overheating or burnouts from overlapping. The conductive polymer core automatically adjusts heat output at each point along the pipe. When the cable overlaps the cable adjusts its heat output at that point along the path so that it cannot overheat.

In areas where the pipe is too cold the H612 and H622 cables know to increase the output so that the pipe does not freeze. This not only protects your property but saves energy as well. Unlike constant feed heat tapes.

The Raychem Self Regulating cables are unlike any others in the industry. With their parallel circuitry technology you can cut the cable to your desired length while maintaining the power output.
As shown in the diagram below the parallels circuitry allows current to flow between the bus wires that run throughout the cable.

Should you cut the cable you will still be left with a complete circuit. (Never twist the bus wires! This will cause a short in the wire.)

On top of the bus wires and parallel circuitry is a self regulating conductive core. This core is what allows for the parallel flow of current along the paths.

After the conductive core you have the electrical insulating jacket, followed by the tinned copper braid and the waterproof polyolefin outer jacket. (This wire is not designed for high temp applications. Raychem does have a commercial department for such applications. If you are looking for these call us and we will get you in the right direction.)

The dry cables are the same with the exception of the waterproof polyolefin outer jacket. The dry cables are intended for dry areas so there is no need for the out jacket.

Raychem cables can be straight-traced, spiraled, or overlapped. Allowing for easy installation.

These cables are also safe on plastics. Because of their self-regulating technology there is no cause for concern of melting plastic pipes.

The WinterGard Wet Roof and Deicing system is just as simple and economical to use.
With the Raychem system there is no more worrying about ice dams damaging your roof with backed up water. Utilizing the belt loop approach creates water ways for the melting water to move off of your roof.

The system can be run along inside of your gutters and down the downspouts keeping the water moving freely. It is highly recommended these areas be fitted with the self regulating wet area cables. If you leave these areas out of your system you will be allowing the down spouts to freeze which defeats the point.
