Hubbell System One at Griffith Electric Supply

Griffith Electric Supply brings you the Hubbell Wiring Systems, System One Metal and Non-Metallic Floor Boxes with Fire-Rated Poke-Throughs.

The Hubbell System One Floor box system Is great for open floor plans that require both power and data services. The universal cover mounts directly to the System One floor box riser, eliminating the need for an additional adapter collar. It is very important to pay attention to what comes with your floor box. There are small black cleats that install into the floor box that the cover will connect to. SO DO NOT THROW OUT THE PARTS!

A really great feature of the System One floor boxes is its ScrubShield technology. This technology exceeds the UL514 scrub water exclusion requirements. Clients will no longer worry about water getting into their electrical outlets in the floor boxes. (Exceeds UL514 with the plate closed).

Another great feature of these floor boxes are the Non-Metallic risers that allow for a simple saw cut for adjustment after the pouring of concrete.

Take a look at the Hubbell SystemOne Floor Box Family.

Protecting your roof, gutters, and pipes with Raychem

When it comes to protecting your assets from the winter months there are a handful of products out there. One of them really stands out. Here at Griffith Electric Supply we really like the Raychem Self-Regulating Heating Products line.

With the Raychem Self-Regulating cables there is no more worrying about overheating or burnouts from overlapping. The conductive polymer core automatically adjusts heat output at each point along the pipe. When the cable overlaps the cable adjusts its heat output at that point along the path so that it cannot overheat.

In areas where the pipe is too cold the H612 and H622 cables know to increase the output so that the pipe does not freeze. This not only protects your property but saves energy as well. Unlike constant feed heat tapes.

The Raychem Self Regulating cables are unlike any others in the industry. With their parallel circuitry technology you can cut the cable to your desired length while maintaining the power output.
As shown in the diagram below the parallels circuitry allows current to flow between the bus wires that run throughout the cable.

Should you cut the cable you will still be left with a complete circuit. (Never twist the bus wires! This will cause a short in the wire.)

On top of the bus wires and parallel circuitry is a self regulating conductive core. This core is what allows for the parallel flow of current along the paths.

After the conductive core you have the electrical insulating jacket, followed by the tinned copper braid and the waterproof polyolefin outer jacket. (This wire is not designed for high temp applications. Raychem does have a commercial department for such applications. If you are looking for these call us and we will get you in the right direction.)

The dry cables are the same with the exception of the waterproof polyolefin outer jacket. The dry cables are intended for dry areas so there is no need for the out jacket.

Raychem cables can be straight-traced, spiraled, or overlapped. Allowing for easy installation.

These cables are also safe on plastics. Because of their self-regulating technology there is no cause for concern of melting plastic pipes.

The WinterGard Wet Roof and Deicing system is just as simple and economical to use.
With the Raychem system there is no more worrying about ice dams damaging your roof with backed up water. Utilizing the belt loop approach creates water ways for the melting water to move off of your roof.

The system can be run along inside of your gutters and down the downspouts keeping the water moving freely. It is highly recommended these areas be fitted with the self regulating wet area cables. If you leave these areas out of your system you will be allowing the down spouts to freeze which defeats the point.

Employee Highlight - Margaret Kline

Margaret Kline (Right)

Margaret Kline has worked with Griffith Electric Supply for 25 years. Friday September 27th 2013 Margaret will enter into the joys of retirement.

Margaret's devotion to Griffith will be remembered for years to come. I have only known Margaret for a couple of months. With what little time I have had with her I can say that Margaret placed Griffith at her highest priority. She made sure that she was always available to help out where she could.

When ever I had a question or needed to learn something Margaret was there to show me how to achieve success.

Margaret in the earlier years of her employment with Griffith ushered in the era of technology
for Griffith Electric Supply. She led a team on a project that converted all of Griffiths paper files and data machines to servers and personal computers.

Around the office Margaret is known as a wealth of knowledge. From customers to invoices, computer procedures to pricing. Margaret knew what had to be done, how to do it, and how to teach you to get it done.

Margaret is a valuable asset to Griffith Electric Supply that will be remembered, missed, and honored.

Cheers to you Margaret. Best of luck and enjoy every second of retirement!

Earlier this month Griffith Electric Supplies Bill Goodwin and Ron Lim were featured in Electrical Wholesaling's "Why 'Buy American' Still Matters" article.

The article was about buying American manufactured goods to help restore the American economy to its former glory.

Jim Lucy writer for Electrical Wholesaling reports that GE plans to invest $30 million and add more than 150 jobs in its domestic lighting manufacturing operations for GE Energy-Efficient Soft White light bulbs that will be sold exclusively at 3,400 U.S.-based Walmart stores.

This announcement from GE comes alongside Walmart's announcement that they will be committing to buying 50 billion more in American-Made products over the next 10 years. It is estimated that this will create roughly 1000 domestic manufacturing jobs.

Bill Goodwin and Ron Lim of Griffith Electric Supply partnered with Creative Marketing Alliance earlier this year to promote purchasing of American Manufactured products through their "Powered By America" campaign.

Bill Goodwin says "Our intent is to help American manufacturers and do our part, as little as it may be. The Powered By America campaign gave our employees something to feel good about. This was done when times were bad, after the recession started. You needed to give people something to feel good about."

Goodwin says "Powered by America is designed to support other U.S companies and individuals like us who are proud of their country and want to see it prosper competitively once again."

Bill Goodwin and Ron Lim were able to encourage many manufacturers to support the "Powered By America" campaign. Those manufacturers include Arlington Industries, Bridgeport Fittings, Cooper B-Line, Cresent Stonco (Phillips), Eaton-Cutler Hammer, Erico-Caddy, General Cable, Hoffman, Hubbell, Hubbell Lighting, Hubbell Wiring Device Kellems, Ideal Industries, Leviton, Lutron, Milwaukee Tools, Osram Sylvania, RAB Lighting, Siemens, Simkar, Southwire, Thomas & Betts and TPI Corp.

The idea of the "Powered By America" campaign was picked up by another electrical distributor by the name of Maurice Electric Supply in Washington, D.C. Warren Janes, V.P. of sales and marketing asked Goodwin if he could use the idea to create is own campaign and promote it in D.C.

Bill Goodwin's campaign was inspired by Anders Lewendal and Jake Lewendal who were featured on ABC news for creating a home using 100% American manufactured goods.

The Lewendals challenged homebuilders to reallocate 5% of their spending for the purchase of domestically manufactured building products.

The Lewendals wanted to know what impact this would have on the American Economy so they sought out proof of impact from the Boston Consulting Group. B.C.G determined that if every builder in America were to allocate 5% of construction spending from foreign to domestic products, it would in effect create 220,000 American jobs. Using these numbers the Lewendals were able to estimate that if every American household reallocated just 5% of its yearly spending to American products, it would create 3 million American jobs.

Griffith Electric Supply is doing its part by promoting sales of American manufactured products.

Using Klein to make work easier

Klein Tools has been assisting in the electrical and telecommunications industries since 1857. When it comes to making work easier for workers in the trade Klein knows how to help.

At Griffith Electric we are proud to offer Klein products which are manufactured in America.

Tools like the Electronic Voltage Tester (ET100), Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester (ET200) and the  Digital Circuit Breaker Finder were made to reduce the amount of time spent on a job site.

The ET100 Electrical Tester has a CAT IV 600 V rating. This tester will work with both ac / dc currents. Features a Red L.E.D voltage indicator as well as an audible tone and vibration alert. The red l.e.d will work without batteries installed. The audible tone and vibration will not.
The light weight (8.1 oz) and special grip design of this electrical tester makes it easy to use when in tight spaces. The ET100 and 200 have a low impedance input that reduces false readings from ghost voltages making it useful for testing G.F.C.I's.

The ET200 is similar to the 100 but has a couple additional features that make it worth the purchase. The first is a white L.E.D work light that can be used in dark areas on the job site. The second is a continuity audible alert that will sound when voltage is as less than 270k ohms. Both the 100 & 200 models have a drop rating of 10ft.

The Klein ET300 is a Digital Circuit Breaker Finder. This handy tool saves loads of time when trying to identify breakers for light fixtures, bare wires and any standard 120v outlet. The transmitter reaches distances of up to 1000 feet. The arrow lights up green when the correct breaker has been found. If that's not enough signal for you an audible tone will also sound off.

The (optional) ET300 accessory kit make tracking down breakers from light sockets or bare wires easier than ever before.

No more spending hours trying to find voltage or breakers again. Come down to Griffith Electric Supply to learn more about how you can use Klein Tools to save you time on the job site.
